How to make your own American biscuit
Posted On August 3, 2021
American biscuits are a staple in the UK, and are usually served as a dip or side dish with sandwiches.
But these fluffy little treats are made with flour instead of butter.
Here’s how to make them yourself, without relying on the bakery.
What you need: 1 cup (120g) whole wheat flour, plus more for dusting flour into the mixture 1 tsp baking powder 1 tsp salt 1 cup water 1/2 cup (60ml) buttermilk 1 tsp lemon juice (or more) 1 tsp sugar 1 tsp cinnamon 1 cup white sugar 2 tbsp vegetable oil, melted for brushing in the pan 3 cups (180g) salted butter (or coconut oil) to grease pan Place the whole wheat and flour into a bowl and whisk together.
Whisk in baking powder, salt and baking powder until well combined.
Add the lemon juice and sugar and whisk until well blended.
Pour the mixture into a greased pan and sprinkle with the cinnamon, sugar and butter.
Place over a low heat and cook for 5 minutes, stirring frequently until the mixture has set.
Serve immediately, or leave to cool in the fridge for a few hours before serving.
